A bit of History

Hastings and Vaughan started as Parquet Plant Products in 1972. We started the business using oak flooring from houses and apartments buildings being torn down in redevelopement projects. The original partners were Gary Hastings, Jonathan Vaughan, Peter Bye and Lamar Wilson

We found an empty building and located the owners, cut a deal and moved in. We designed products ranging from fern stands to plant hangers and got started visiting local nurseries and gift shops and developed a customer base. The business started with long hours and hard work from all of the partners and utilizing local kids to pull nails from the salvaged flooring. We developed a steamer box and racks to create curved legs and jigs to reduce labor hours. In the end it evolved from a crude labor intensive operation with crude handmade products to a much more efficient manufacturing facility with a much cleaner product that sold in J C Pennys, nurseries and gift shops across the country.

But alas, lack of profitability from the delusion that our hand crafted products could compete with manufactured products and competition from much cheaper imports resulted in the demise of this ambitious project. Gary Hastings and Jonathan Vaughan went back to doing carpentry projects and eventually started specializing in cabinets and the shop became exclusively a cabinet shop and still is to this day. The name Changed to Hastings and Vaughan and the rest is history.
